Thanks to Urambo Tauro’s FP writeup, I thought of us Opponauts being those éX-Drivers. If we were going to do what they do in that series, what two cars will you use?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
To make things interesting, you shall choose two manual-gearbox cars : one that is of about the same vintage as the ones in the show , but I’ll cast a wider net and start from 1960 and end in the year 2000 , and one from 2001 to 2020 . My choices are seen above.
You can have it any way you want. You can have a Porsche 914-6 as your old recipro, and pair it with a Boss 302 Mustang. You can shoot for the Moon and go with a Low-Drag E-type Coupe and a C7 Corvette Z06, or be a bit more funky and have a combination of a Triumph Spitfire GT6 and an Audi TTRS, or a full 4WD garage that has a Peugeot 208 T16 and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6.
There’s quite a lot more I can suggest, but I’ll leave the choices to you.

Hmm, your Aussie choice inspired me. I wanna go...for a Toyota 2000GT and a Vauxhall Monaro Bathurst, because of the whineeeee of the supercharger. Hot momma, I love that sound.

That’s a tough one; I’ll have to give it some more thought. Whatever it is, it can’t be one of those shoulder-height beltline cars. I need to be able to comfortably shoot from the driver’s seat.
What other criteria do you think we should look for?

Well, for the most part, we can do away with the rarity restriction, because *Mr. Regular voice* EVERYTHING IS RARE */Mr. Regular voice* in that world, but generally, as long as the post-2000 car is manual and does not have more than three chassis modes (so if the car has 4 more modes before Sport+ it’s out), we’re good.

The higher beltline might be needed for cover.

I’ll take an LM002, in red, with a light tan interior.
The other one can be a Spyker C8 in silver on red.
Both fit the aesthetic of the show pretty damn well, I think.

I mean, it wouldn’t be too hard to manual-swap an SLS, now, would it?

To go fast it’s gotta be a big block muscle car, my choice would be a 1971 El Camino SS with the 454:

You've got to have something ready for rough dirt roads, or a complete lack of roads.

The Elco could come in handy if say a passenger in a runaway car needed to be removed from the vehicle while it's still moving.

Jensen Interceptor (plus it makes the best puns for car chases).
And an Avantime, because I love it.
But if I have to choose a sensible option, the car would have to…
- Catch up and stay with vehicles for high speed chases.
- Have good visibility so I can throw stuff out of the windows, just like in the anime.
- Large parts selection since lots of these cars were rammed into things in the anime.
Answer is Volvo (it’s like a low maintenance BMW, Merc or Jag).
And Saabaru (it’s like a low maintenance STI, Evo or Integrale).

TVR Tuscan Speed Six.

Some ‘90s Tatras.
This may or may not result in certain death.

I think you can actually restomod that Tatra so it’s as bulletproof as a Camry. If I’m right, Lotus will still exist and can tune the V6 for more power, and the rest of the running gear can be bolstered no problem.
I know, taints the character, but the Autonomotive Singularity will be a long era.

If you’re talking about the TVR Speed Six, keep in mind that it’s actually an I6 and not a Vee, though it shouldn’t matter too much regardless.
The Tatra’s got an air-cooled V8, it’s hard to say how that will hold-up although the company has a history in the commercial sector so their cars are likely pretty tough as well. To be fair, dropping a SBC in there is probably pretty easy, but the extra power would likely be dangerous with the RR setup. As I said, both are ‘likely deadly’.
